Mobile Applications come alive at Mobile Expo

The innovation in Mobile Applications has made significant leaps since I first started working on seminars and content in this space about 4 years ago.  At that time a great ‘mobile’ application was the ability to VPN back into the office!  How things have changed…….

What is more impressive is the speed of deployment of many of the mobile applications I have spoken to our presenters about. Considering the apparent complexity it is an endorsement of the cloud computing model as many solutions are simply ‘glued’ together using web services. Which will be music to the ears of Opera software as well as Salesforce.com both presenting their visions at this years event.

In this post I would like to pick out a couple of case study presentations which have caught my eye and they have an added benefit of being presented not through the eyes of the vendor but from the actual companies which implemented them.

The JCDecaux story will appeal to anyone looking to see the business benefits of mobile applications in a real world scenario. While the JCDecaux solution fulfils a specific need for their industry, it is a fantastic benchmarking opportunity for any organisation that needs to deliver real time geographic and situational proof – by combining device GPS and imaging capabilities. You can get a further overview of what was achieved here.

The Grant Thornton session is ideal for companies reviewing their mobile applications and devices strategies. Greg Swift from Grant Thornton, one of the largest accounting practices in the UK, shares his experiences of device selection, cost control and application delivery to help improve productivity and deliver a compelling user experience. Any makes an excellent case for keeping the first step simple and yet achieving great business gains.

What is most encouraging when looking at presentations submitted to date from all the speakers is the amount of real world and practical content.  We have categorised them on our website under the How To category.

As we come to the final run-in to the event I will give regular short updates on the content of presenters sessions as they come in to give you more detail on what is being presented at this years event which has by far the most comprehensive speaking programme ever and the most relevant to enterprises looking to leverage all the possibilities that are now on offer.

The event has four distinct streams mobile applications & content, on premises high bandwidth wireless and campus infrastructure, Device and access security and policies and finally mobile application development which looks at the platforms and innovations in mobile applications.

I would encourage you to browse the content on offer as I am sure we have something that is of value to anyone looking to effectively mobilise their business and processes.

If any of you are attending the event I look forward to meeting you and receiving your feedback on this blog and the event sessions.
